Teachers' Pay Calculator
The DCSF has produced a useful calculator which can bve used to generate
a personalied and detailed statement of a teacher's salary in a very
clear format ie number of spine points, permanent and temporary management
points, London allowance etc. This would be helpful for providing
the annual salary statement and should therefore be of use to your
finance/personnel officer. You can access it on http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/paycalc
National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH)
A reminder that from 1st April applicants for headship must have either completed the NPQH qualification or be working towards it. The new regulations apply to those taking up their first headship in the maintained sector (or at a non-maintained special school). From April 2009 all applicants for headships in maintained schools must hold the qualification before they make applications. Completion of the NPQH takes between six months and two years depending on experience and expertise. The programme, which is run under the auspices of the National College of School Leadership, involves online learning, school-based assessment and visits to schools. CRB Checks
The Cabinet Office has published guidance to help organisations that use volunteers to be clear about when they do and don’t need to carry out Criminal Records
Bureau (CRB) checks on volunteers. The guidance will help cut unnecessary red tape and responds to concerns voiced by the voluntary sector that potential volunteers
can be put off if they are asked to undergo a CRB check without good reason. People volunteering or working with children or vulnerable adults are sometimes
legally required to have a CRB check. Where contact with vulnerable people will be limited or perhaps the person has recently been CRB checked for a different role,
a decision about clearance must be made. The
guidance clearly explains how the check works as part of a proper risk management process. Other safeguards such as
interviewing, training and taking references from potential volunteers can also be employed.
To order a hardcopy of the ‘Criminal Record Bureau Checks: Guidance for Volunteering’, please call 0845 015 0010 and quote reference URN 08/Z. (05.08).
