We need governors - We need YOU! The London Diocesan Board for School appoints at least one governor to each of our church schools. We are always looking for new governors. As a governor you can do much to support and encourage staff and pupils in a church school. Special skills are not needed - the main requirements are a willingness to learn, to be able to work in a team and to visit the school. Interested? Most governing bodies meet twice a term, usually in the evening. Each governor is normally expected to serve on a committee or working party. Responsibilities include admissions policies, religious education, monitoring progress of pupils, supplying parents with information about the school and their children, employing staff, looking after and improving the premises, ensuring the finances of the school are properly allocated and administered. For more information read the following: -A School Governor - What is involved? LDBS governor appointment retrictions LDBS governors are appointed by the Governors and Appointments Committee of the Board. The Committee, in trying to ensure a wider input into the governing bodies of their schools, is willing to consider anyone with a Christian commitment as a governor. However, they are also aware that a number of sections of the school and church community are already represented on governing bodies, and because of this do not wish to appoint staff or those who attend the local church. They will also not appoint parents unless the Instrument of Government stipulates that they should do so. We have found that a couple of schools have got themselves in a muddle over the appointment of LDBS governors. These governors are not appointed by the school, clerk or chair! They are appointed by the Governors and Appointments Committee of the LDBS Board. When an LDBS appointed governor leaves or resigns, the chair or clerk should notify the LDBS (Penny Harvey or Mitch), that there is a vacancy together with the details of anyone they would like to suggest as a successor but be aware of our restrictions (see above). We will then follow this through and inform the clerk when an appointment has been made. From time to time we have applications from people via the web and through the Governors One Stop Shop. We will do our best to match these applications to vacancies. Proceed to our Governor Vacancy Board and apply online for a vacancy
